A letter to my son on his second birthday...

These past two years have gone incredibly fast and excruciatingly slow at the same time. I never thought that this would be our journey, but it has given me the best perspective on life. You need me, but more importantly, I need you. You've taught me so much in these short two years; you've taught me to slow the pace of my life down and enjoy the small moments in each day. You've taught me about how to have fortitude and grit. You are an inspiration and my hero.
You have come so far already in your two years of life, and it's been an absolute joy to watch you learn and grow. You are so full of joy, everyone who has met you comments on how joyful you are. You are incredibly tough, taking on adversities daily that you had no choice in. You haven't let your diagnosis define you and you continue to amaze us and all your providers.

In the last year, you have learned to walk, run, climb, and talk a bit. You've learned sign language and you've learned how to be a great listener. You've traveled a bit, and hopefully will be able to travel more this year. You went to your first concert, went sledding for the first time, and finally let me keep a hat on your head for more than a few seconds.

Elliot, please always remember that you are loved beyond measure, your joy is a gift to everyone in your life, and your future is filled with whatever endless possibilities you choose.

You are the light and joy of your dad's life, and your momma's little hero. We love you sweet boy!
